Veganuary is in full swing and by now you have hopefully enjoyed some incredible vegan food and are seeing the benefits of being a vegan.
So far, this has been the most succesful Veganuary campaign to date with more people than ever taking the pledge. The media can’t seem to keep quiet about it either helping spread awareness far and wide across the globe.
Whilst most of the fuss around veganism centres around the food it’s worth remembering what veganism is really about and why we do it – the animals.

Of the five documentaries listed, Cowspiracy is likely the most famous. The makers describe it as:
‘a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today — and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.’
Shortly after this film went viral many people decided to go vegan as a result. The film was released in 2014 and to this day it’s groundbreaking discoveries are still cited in support of choosing a vegan lifestyle. This documentary is a must-watch.
Earthlings was released all the way back in 2005. It explores how humans have become dependent on using animals for financial gain. It uncovers the normalisation of ways that we exploit animals across the globe covering animal agriculture, pets, food, clothing, entertainment and scientific research.
A young Joaquin Phoenix narrates the film. Joaquin Pheonix recently in the spot light for the Joker film has been vegan since he was a small child. He just recently helped the 2020 Golden Globes go vegan too. The music was also curated by the famous musician and animal rights activist, Moby.
3. What The Health
You will have most likely already heard about this film. Released in 2017 on Netflix, What The Health set the food world alight and caused much controversy. It was heavily criticized and still is today with many people within the food industry desperate to debunk its claims.
The key message within this documentary is that our current relationship with food is not a good one and you might not be eating what you think you’re eating. It was also produced and directed by the guys who brought us Cowspiracy.
We have just witnessed the era of processed food, this documentary might just help us to end it. Do you really know what you are eating?
4. Food Inc.
Food Inc. provides a scary insight into the mass processing behind modern American diets. It uncovers the ways in which big corporations have monopolised the average person’s diet and speaks to the American people directly about their poor food habits.
Food Inc. is a wake-up call for everyone, especially as the American or ‘Western’ diet is currently spreading throughout the world into most of Asia and Africa.
5. Forks Over Knives
This documentary explores people’s transition to a plant-based diet and how it can be used effectively to treat many of today’s chronic diseases simply by avoiding animal products.
The documentary focuses on heart disease and Type-2 diabetes, two out of three of America’s biggest killers. Since the documentary was released, Forks Over Knives have been hugely succesful in aiding people to transition to mostly plant-based whole foods diet.
Their Facebook page has well over a million followers and many have reported amazing transitions in their health, some have lost incredible amounts of weight, reversed chronic illnesses and even saved their own lives with this diet.
An increasing amount of research and medical professional continue to back the plant-based whole foods diet.
In the last couple of years, Dominion is one of the most famous vegan documentaries to have been released . This eye-opening film uncovers the horrors behind the modern animal agriculture industry using drones and undercover activists with hidden cameras.
Filmed in Australia, this feature-length film reveals standard practices on the country’s factory farms that you never knew existed and will shock you to your core. Dominion is not for the faint-hearted. It is a snapshot of our modern world’s obsessesion with quick and cheap meat, milk, eggs and cheese.
7. The Game Changers
Unless you were living under a rock the last 12 months you will have undoubtedly heard about the massive new film directed by James Cameron and produced by some of the most famous athletes on the planet, The Game Changers.
This film follows professional MMA fighter, James Wilks, on his quest to discover the truth behind meat, protein and strength. The documentary includes famous elite athletes such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Patrik Baboumian, Kendrick Farris, Dotsie Bausch, Nimai Delgado, and Scott Jerek.
The documentary helps break down myths about the necessity of meat in our diet for protein and strength. Proving that we can be just as powerful and succesful without animal products.
